October 23, 2007 Beginning a New Chapter

Chapter Five Shaping A New Nation 1781-1850

We're going to jump a little ahead in time, skipping over the colonization of the Americas, past the Revolutionary War, to the beginning of what would become the United States of America.

The first plan of government between the old British colonies after the Revolutionary War was over was know as the Articles of Confederation. It was a less than perfect plan and ultimitly didn't work very well.

We will first take a look at the objectives for this chapter. The objectives will guide you regarding what you should know after we complete the chapter. I will also provide you with a hard copy of the objectives, please keep it in your portfolio. We will review the objectives from time to time and you will use it during the final chapter test.

The Columbian Exchange

Good afternoon students of history!
Today Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 we will explore the concept of the Columbian Exchange. You will eventually create a graphic poster that illustrates this important relationship between the Americas, Europe and Africa.

Definition of the Columbian Exchange: the transfer - beginning with Columbus's first voyage - of plants, animals, and diseases between the Western Hemisphere and the Eastern Hemisphere.
